Fascination Hunsrück - rough wind in a delicate dress

Rural idyll, mountain heights and historic towns: the Hunsrück is alive and well. As a charming low mountain range, with its highest elevation, the Erbeskopf, the Hunsrück offers its visitors exactly the right leisure and cultural program from January to December. If you are interested in the culinary arts, the country and its people, you will find the Hunsrück in full force: you can experience homely flair and pleasant peculiarities as close as nature and landscape, not only on the popular bike and hiking trails. Where the seasons are still known, the region always shows its wonderful and unique side. The good thing about it: if you have the choice, you are spoiled for choice!

“Anyone who has come to the Hunsrück for the first time will not leave again anytime soon.” Hunsrück lovers know why. With its unusual corners in extensive forest areas and green corridors, in addition to culinary dishes a-la-Région, you can enjoy nature, tranquility, flowing traffic and a flourishing economy in the Hunsrück. From its Hunsrück plateaus, to the geographic center of Rhineland-Palatinate, in the middle of Bärenbach near the regional airport Frankfurt-Hahn (former US Airbase Hahn), to its admirable half-timbered houses, countless listed objects and historical sites the Rhein-Hunsrück-Kreis has a lot to offer.

Today it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Link:

In addition to other noteworthy sights, the impressive and adventurous, always open and free suspension bridge Geierley (https://www.hunsruecktouristik.de/reisethemen/natur/haengeseilbruecke-geierlay) over the Mörsdorfer Bachtal in dizzying heights.

The dialect, the “Hunsricker Platt”, is just as indispensable in the region as the historic townscape of Dill. Find out what “Gehaischnis” means or visit the film location, the internationally known cinema trilogy “Heimat” by Edgar Reitz: Schabbach. Museums, events and social celebrations take place all year round, beyond the district capital limits of Simmern, in even the most remote Hunsrück villages.

Follow in the footsteps of Baron Drais von Sauerbronn, the former inventor of the draisine, a forerunner of today's bicycle. The Hunsrück owes its long tradition of cycling to him. The most beautiful cycling and hiking tours in the Hunsrück can be found here.

Opened in May 2011, you can climb en Vélo the Hunsrück cycle path from Saarburg an der Saar over the Hunsrück heights to the Rhine Valley to Bacharach. You can also stroll and hike on the paths of the notorious Schinderhannes. Explore one and the other dream loop of the Saar-Hunsrück-Steig. It connects the Hunsrück, Mosele and Rhine with each other. (Dream loop map: https://www.saar-hunsrueck-steig.de/traumschleifen/karte) and enjoy the heights and expanses of the Hunsrück-Hochwald National Park.
